Direct access to the ADS databases
There are currently four automated way to access the ADS
bibliographies:
- Through the
Z39.50 interface to the ADS search and retrieval engine.
This should be considered the most "standard" way to access our
bibliographies.
- Through a library of high-level PERL functions,
adswww-lib
which provide a simple interface to send queries to and parsing
results from the ADS databases.
- A prototype
Bibliographic Reference Resolver Interface
attempts to parse reference entries (as found in the astronomical
literature) and identify the corresponding
bibliographic code identifier.
- For the purpose of checking the existence and correctness of
bibliographic codes ("bibcodes")
a simple WWW-based
interface and sample script has been created.
If you plan to use any of the above methods for accessing our
databases, we would appreciate it if you could let us know
in advance to avoid getting alarmed over unusual increases in
usage.
