The nonradial oscillation spectra of neutron stars.
Abstract
The authors have computed nonradial oscillation spectra for a number of realistic, finite-temperature, nonrotating, nonmagnetic neutron stars containing solid crusts. The spectra consist of p-modes (with periods Π < 0.2 ms), g-modes trapped in the fluid "ocean" layer (Π > 100 ms), g-modes trapped in the fluid core (Π > 10 s), shear (s-) and toroidal (t-) modes confined to the solid crust (Π < 1 ms), and interfacial (i-) modes associated with the stellar surface (f-mode: Π ≈ 0.2 - 0.4 ms), the "ocean"/crust interface (Π ≈ 10 - 100 ms), and the crust/core interface (Π ≈ 10 - 100 ms).
