Abstract

CN was detected at 2 locations in the Taurus dark cloud complex and in 12 molecular clouds in H II regions; partial maps of CN line intensities were drawn for DR 21 and Sgr A. The line opacities and excitation temperatures were used to derive CN column densities in the ground rotational state. It was shown that: (1) CN is about as abundant as CS in molecular clouds associated with the H II regions, (2) opacities in the one to zero range of N lines of CN are small relative to unity, (3) CN is spatially correlated with NH3 and anticorrelated with HC3N in Taurus, and (4) in DR 21, CN is distributed similarly to HCN and C2H.
