Abstract

A method is described for recovering the brightness distributions of compact radio sources from VLBI observations of closure phase and fringe amplitude. The approach is to deduce the visibility phase from these data. It is shown that reliable 'hybrid' maps of complexity comparable with that of early synthesis results on extended sources can be obtained with networks of four or more existing telescopes.
