A Statistical Study of the Rotation of the Stars.
Abstract
The line widths in the spectra of about 1550 stars have been measured on Lick plates, and a simple procedure for converting the line width to the rotational velocity is advanced. The results of our measurements, given in Tables 1 and 2, have been compared with the results by other authors. Some statistical data, such as the frequency distribution, the mean value, etc., which can be derived from the present measurements are also given. We have also discussed the problem of the correlation between the space motion and the rotational motion of the stars.
