Absorption lines in the spectra of the QSO PKS 1448-232.
Abstract
A QSO associated with the radio source PKS 1448-232 has been observed with the Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT). Analysis of the spectroscopic data obtained at intermediate resolution indicates the presence of absorption lines of L-alpha N V, O IV, and C IV. A series of tables is given which list the spectral range of the absorption and the line densities for 16 QSOs. The observed increase in line density with the redshift of the absorbing clouds supports models like that of Ostriker and Ikeuchi (1983) in which ionization of the clouds was less at earlier epochs.
