Abstract

The diffuse interstellar bands at 6195 and 6613 A and two new features at 6993 and 7223 A are observed with an echelle scanner in several reddened B-type and early A-type supergiants. The resolution is either 2.6 or 4.6 km/sec at 6613 A. When interfering atmospheric H2O lines are removed, no evidence is found in any of these features for any fine structure, although at 6613 A there is unsharp structure on the shortward side and an extended wing to longer wavelengths. The interstellar K I lines are also compared with that of the diffuse features. The sharpest diffuse band at 6195 A (full width at half-depth, 0.34 A) is in HD 183143 partially resolvable into two lines having the same splitting as K I. In similar fashion, the structure at 6613 A in HD 183143 is a blurred version of that seen in single-cloud stars; it also can be decomposed into two equal components having the K I separation.
