Abstract

The catalog of diameters of lenses, inner rings and outer rings in 532 disk galaxies by De Vaucouleurs and Buta (dVB, 1980) is analyzed with emphasis on the ratios of the diameters of the various features. The ratio of diameters of outer rings versus inner rings is discussed, and a comparison is made between data given by dVB and those of Kormendy (1979), showing good agreement for ring classifications and ring sizes. It is found that outer rings occur more frequently in early types, especially early type spirals as opposed to lenticulars, and lenses favor outer rings over pseudo-rings whether or not there is a bar. The position of rings in barred galaxies is concluded to be associated with the main dynamical resonances.
