Abstract

UKIDSS is a set of 5 wide-field near-infrared surveys, in some or all of the ZYJHK passpands, that began in 2005. UKIDSS is currently 25% complete, and is already the largest existing near-infrared survey in terms of both volume and photons collected. This presentation coincides with the World Release of DR1, which contains over 300 sq degs in the full filter complement to K=18.2, as well as 4 sq degs to K=21.

I will describe the contents of DR1, and highlight new results from UKIDSS including the search for the coolest brown dwarfs, the highest-redshift quasars, the measurement of the stellar initial mass function in the sub-stellar regime, as well as the compilation of large samples of high-redshift galaxy clusters, extremely red objects, and distant red galaxies.
