Abstract

We derived the distance to the northernmost extension of the Sagittarius (Sgr) dwarf spheroidal galaxy from 137 Sgr RR0 Lyrae stars found in the MACHO database. Their distances are determined with respect to 156 Galactic Bulge RR0 Lyrae stars also found in the MACHO data. For $\rm R_{\odot}$ = 8 kpc, the obtained distance modulus to these stars is $(m-M)_0$ = 16.95 $\pm$ 0.03 (internal) which corresponds to D = 24.5 kpc. We consider the implications of the history of the Sgr galaxy in light of these RR Lyrae stars.
