Abstract

We ask for 4 TOO observations of 50 ks each to observe 4 blazars, conditional to stringent and well defined triggering criteria based on 1) hard or soft X-ray brightening; or 2) TeV brightening; or GeV brightening or 3) optical brightening. With the XMM-Newton observations of blazars in flaring state we will investigate their X-ray spectra evolution over a timescale from minutes to hours. This will provide relevant information on the radiation mechanisms in extragalactic relativistic jets. XMM-Newton TOO prompted by Swift/BAT or INTEGRAL or GLAST or TeV telescope would provide for the first time X-ray observations of flaring blazars activated by very high energy triggers. We will coordinate these observations with a similar Integral program already active.
