Abstract

Globular clusters are known to contain a large number of pulsars (and in particular millisecond pulsars) per unit mass compared to the Galactic disk. They are therefore prime targets for deep radio pulsar searches. We have observed approximately 20 globular clusters at 20 cm using the recently upgraded Arecibo telescope and the new Green Bank Telescope (GBT) resulting in over 2 TB of data. The high time resolution of the data, long integration times, and new search techniques greatly improve our sensitivity to both sub-millisecond pulsars and pulsars in ultra-compact binary systems. We have constructed a 104 processor "Beowulf"-style computer system specifically for the analysis of this and other pulsar data. We report here preliminary results from our analysis. We greatly appreciate support from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation, NSERC, and NSF.
