Abstract

The authors present representative flux-calibrated spectra of a sample of known white dwarfs in wide binary systems taken at Cerro Tololo Observatory. Classifications determined from prominent spectral features are given for these examples, as well as the overall distribution of the spectral types for the entire sample. In addition, photometric data for a subset of the stars in the sample are used to verify one of the techniques used to find new white dwarf candidates, and to update an absolute magnitude histogram comparing several different data sets. Finally, a white dwarf luminosity function is shown, from which a value for the age of the Galactic disk can be determined.
