Abstract

The application of maximum-entropy reconstruction methods to 10-micron spectrometric observations of HD 44179 and its surrounding unidentified IR (UIR) emission has revealed spatial variations in the spectra. Cool continuum emission is observed, without UIR emission, in the innermost regions of the source; UIR suddenly appears 0.5 arcsec away from the central source, and decays steadily with distance. The decay properties of features at 11.3, 8.6, 7.9, 7.7, and 7.4 microns indicate that the formation of carriers of the UIR emission features have been detected. The behavior of the 11.3 and 8.6 micron features suggest that the material is increasingly hydrogenated with distance.
