Abstract

We review theoretical models for the formation of pulsars with planet-mass companions. We first summarize observational constraints a successful model has to fulfill and discuss potential tests of the models. We then assess the merits and uncertainties of the various models in the context of the putative planet pulsar PSR 1257+12. At the moment, several of the models appear to be consistent with the available constraints. We conclude the review with a list of 'best-bet' models.
