Abstract

The near-IR surface photometry of the edge-on spiral NGC 5907 is decomposed into the bulge and the disk components, using a technique similar to that of Van der Kruit and Searle (1981, 1982) except that the sech(z) function is used to fit the vertical profiles. The decomposition yielded values for the size and the brightness parameters of the bulge and the disk, including the midplane region, and made it possible to make examinations at vertical scale-height throughout the disk. and to compute the bulge-to-disk luminosity ratio (B/D). The B/D ratio of NGC 5907 was found to be 0.05 and the face-on disk central surface brightness in the bulge to be 21.7 mag/sq arcsec. These are in the range of values for normal Sc galaxies.
