Abstract

Detailed 11-color photometry of the November 1980 outburst of AG Draconis, which increased the brightness of the star by two magnitudes in the ultraviolet and one in the visual, is presented. The outburst was most energetic in the ultraviolet, the effect decreasing steadily into the far red, where at 8200 A the increase in flux was only 30 percent of that at 3473 A. The continuum flux fell the first day after discovery, then reversed and rose to a maximum 14 days later, giving the appearance of a premaximum oscillation. The ultraviolet flux suffered a prominent oscillation some 20 days past maximum, followed by a long decline to normalcy which was interrupted first by another small oscillation and then by a large panchromatic recovery that peaked some 400 days after maximum. By June 1982 the star had returned to its quiet state. After 550 uneventful days there were two smaller additional bursts.
