Abstract

A model of running penumbral waves based on the theory of linear transformation of magneto-acoustic-gravity waves has been constructed. Penumbral waves arise as a result of transformation in the almost horizontal magnetic field of five-minute waves trapped in the solar convection zone. The main properties of penumbral waves are explained within the framework of the model suggested.
