Abstract

The radio remnant of the AD 1006 supernova has been mapped with resolution of ≡1 arcmin. The radio map and a recent X-ray map of similar resolution both show a bright ring of emission indicative of a shell structure. While the general appearance is remarkably similar, with both radio and X-ray emission strong in the same general portions of the ring, detailed comparisons show no precise correspondence of the brightest features. A major difference is that the X-ray emission is quite intense at the centre of the ring, where there is essentially no detectable radio emission. Optical observations conflict with the X-ray interpretation of a large ejected mass, high energy and no deceleration to date.
