Abstract

In the present study, muon pairs recorded by large-gap optical spark chambers at the Tien-Shan EAS station were analyzed with the aim of detecting muon pairs produced by EAS hadrons in dense material. The cross section for muon pairs produced by EAS hadrons is determined and is found to be much larger than the value obtained from accelerator experiments.
