a Scattering Theory for Quantum Fields on Exterior Domains.
Abstract
In this dissertation we develop a rigorous formalism for the scattering of relativistic spin-zero particles off a rigid obstacle. Our theory applies to both massless and massive particles and in the latter case to both neutral and charged particles. Moreover, we do not treat any particular obstacle but rather a class of obstacles which are taken to be certain compact subsets of (//R)('3). For each case that we treat we construct a scattered quantum field and asymptotic in and out fields. For the case of charged particles, the formalism includes the effect of external (electromagnetic) fields which are defined on the obstacle's exterior. In addition, for the case of neutral massive particles, we construct a unitary quantum scattering operator.
